David Bowie was not just a musician; he was – and is – my hero. Not just for one day, but forever. He was art, fashion and all those beloved characters he created. If you roll your eyes and say this article is released when the return of the Starman to a galaxy far away is old news already, let me tell you it came years too soon. The world is a much less exciting place without Bowie.

Millions of people out there have their personal story what Bowie means (yes means and not meant, because his legacy is immortal) to them, so let me tell you mine: Since I was a child I felt like I didn't fit in and got treated as an outcast. I was a shy and lonely girl who spent her time with books and music instead of friends. Somewhen I found Bowie – the beloved Alien – and it was like somebody turned on the stars in my universe. I instantly recognized him as the figurehead of a tribe of eccentric people and felt a strong connection. Seeing the androgynous singer in his fabulous costumes, living his crazy dreams, taught me it's not just ok to be different, but a desirable position to walk towards bravely. Like a comet, this man was leading me the way where I wanted to go in my life.

I was almost under shock when I heard the sad news and had to collect my thoughts for a few days before I was able to write about losing my sparkling hero. The evening before I went to bed with his new album Black Star in my head. David singing "I'm in heaven" followed me into my dreams and the morning afterward the man who fell to earth was gone from it again.

How could he leave us and what can we do? Mourn! All the people for whom he was only a musicians among many will not understand the sadness caused by an idol never met personally. I don't care, and I bet they don't belong to the eccentric tribe! Do you agree? Then maybe you feel the need I do to have Bowie closer than ever. Let's watch his movies, turn the speakers up and listen to his musical legacy, paint lightning bolts across your faces, and last but least: Wear Bowie themed things. He will live forever in our hearts!

I know this post doesn't do Bowie justice at all. He created and didn't reproduce. Those pieces here are mere copies of his iconic style while I believe he would like all eccentrics out there to create and evolve. Yes, Mr. Bowie, I promise we will. We owe you this, because after you are gone there is nobody but us left. But let us mourn first, tribe of colourful people, and then we can go on and someday (hopefully in the future far away) we will meet Bowie on a star far away.

Yay, I loved to shoot this outfit. No freezing in the cold but feeling cozy and warm in my wool coat while presenting my winter jacket. Why can't it always be like this? It might not be the most quirky look I ever styled, but I love this casual winter look and wear it a lot recently.

The dress has already become one of my favourites no matter that my mother asked me If I'm wearing a clown costume seeing me wearing it. Sometimes parents are strange creatures, aren't they? I remember the day so well when my mother saw my pink hair for the first time and didn't want to speak to me nor leave the car. Meanwhile, she got used to having a pink-haired daughter, even if the candy colours don't run in the family.

There seems to be no end in sight for the era of the flamingo. While I show you my darling flamingo bag from Skinnydip I got a few weeks ago in London; three new flamingo pieces are already waiting on my desk to be included in a styling. I wish I could show you everything right away, I Iove all of them and see it as a great privilege of being a blogger to be surrounded by so many beautiful things. Dear weather, please, be kind to me, I have to take pictures.

If you like the look: Shhhhhh, jacket and dress are on sale right now, so you could make a bargain.

Being a blogger puts you into the position of a material girl. You are always browsing for the newest coolest finds; your postie moans under the load of parcels he has to carry to your doorstep and at first sight you give the impression that consumption is your only definition of happiness. But isn't there more behind the facade?

My musings about questions ended in me realising that happiness often lies in the small things of life, the things nobody mentioned. Therefore, I decided to pair my ten fashion finds post for the first time with a list of 10 moments of happiness during the last days. Most of them might seem unremarkable, but I believe they make a difference. I like the idea of continuing the list and having a million of reasons to be happy if I continue to write them all down.

10 Things That Make Me Happy

1. Booking the next trip to London. Yay! My advice: You get the most of your travels when you plan ahead and leave a lot of time for pleasant anticipation.

2. A smile from a (female) stranger one the street. It doesn't cost you anything to lift the corners of your mouth but might bring the sun into somebody else’s day.

3. Telling your boyfriend, your family and friends how much you love them and appreciate them being in your life.

 4. Taking care of yourself just because you deserve it: Doing a face mask while having a Lush flamingo bubble bath on a regular day. What could be more relaxing?

 5. Fulfilling a New Year's resolution: I wanted to read a book a month this year, and I already finished two in January (Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart and Burial Rites by Hannah Kent). Especially the second one touched me and will stick in my mind for quite a while.

 6. Waking up early in the morning and realising it’s weekend, hiding deeper under the sheets and continuing with adventures in dreamland.

 7. Getting in touch with people you haven't talked to for years and still enjoying each others company like no time at all has passed.

 8. Having a cosy evening at home with warm candle light and steaming Earl Gray tea. There is no need for wellness when you declare your home to your island of recreation.

 9. Reading the news that David Bowie prepared music to be released after his death. Thank the stars, it's not necessary to live without the man who fell to earth!

10. The moment when you catch a glance of yourself in a shop window and realise even the colour of the fruit juice you carry matches your outfit.

What was your moment of happiness this week or today?

Kanokkorn Lamlert is my insider tip number one when it comes to unique acrylic jewellery with extraordinary details. When she told me about her new collection, I didn't need a fortune teller to foresee it's magnificence.  SS16 "Whisper From Eden" is like an irresistible siren song turned into jewellery.

All pieces enchant with their details, materials such as sparkling Swarovski crystals, acrylic in sweet pastel colours and brass join each other and form delicate flowers. Marie Antoinette would have loved the whole collection for sure.

The Bangkong-based designer and Vogue's "Who's on Next" finalist 2015 was inspired by the dream of diving into the garden of Eden, the miracle of love and it's innocence. When the flowers exquisitely bloom, love blooms as well. She says that the jewellery has the scent of first love, I believe it has the look of eternal love.

Most people encourage you to blend in and be part of the majority, but there are a few who inspire you to be the most eccentric you possible. This post is dedicated to Diane Goldie, who is certainly one of the second kind and the designer of my skirt. I met the London artist, feminist, former puppeteer and maker of wearable art on the Spitalfields Market a while ago. There is no way I could have overseen this remarkable free spirit of a woman with her rainbow necklace, her arms full of bangles and her hair full of flowers.

From the first second, there was a bond between us, a certain kinship only found among fellow artistic, bold and quirky people. We queer ones don't need a passport or an own country; one glance is sufficient to recognise our kind among millions of people.

So we talked like old friends about relationships, arts, fashion, politics and many other things. I was overwhelmed by the kindness and warmth emerging from this woman and soaked up her words. Diane embraces the awkward, the colourful and the diversity of people. "It's ok to be just as you are" seems to be the universal message behind her words and they touched my soul. I wanted to evolve into an even brighter, more colourful version of myself and raise the flag of uniqueness high above my head.

Suddenly our encounter came to an end: Diane said she had to go home to her sewing machine. Only a few hours later my phone rang and a picture appeared on its screen, showing me this amazing skirt. She said she turned what she saw in me into a piece of fabric. And what a creation it was! Wearing it makes me a living and walking piece of art, signed with the name of Diane Goldie. Isn't it a liberating thought not to confine art to museums, but to bring it out into the world, to make it part of our lives? I still have the spark of energy Diane passed on to me in my heart and I'll keep it alive.

Music. Not just a word, but something essential to my life. Music is my constant companion: It accompanies me on my way to work; my pictures are edited following its rhythm and its presence fills my home with life and joy. There is the right tune for every mood from on top of the world to down in the dumps in my ever growing library, turning my life into a movie with the coolest soundtrack. Some songs are strongly connected to memories I experienced while listening to them; others remind me of certain important people in my life.

For the first time, I share some of my favourite songs with you. If you like quirky female artists, a little bit of electro and some nostalgia from the 70s and 80s, you might like my playlist.

If I had to choose a single song to represent my life, it would be Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush. This song is in my life since I was a child and never stops to wake emotions in me. Since I am still heartbroken about the death of David Bowie, I listened to a lot of Bowie recently and rediscovered all the old favourites as well as the new songs from his last album Blackstar. Besides making our lives richer, it has the virtue to make singers and stars immortal and this is probably the most unusual aspect of it.

Life is hard enough;  I can't banish all the sadness, the tears and the injustice happening, so please let me fill my wardrobe with only cute and sweet things at least! I can feel spring coming when I see all the exciting things popping up in the shops.

I am a rainbow gal for life, but when even the Evening Standard says that 2016 is the year of colourful fashion (see article here), I feel tempted to overdue it even more. Nobody has to tell me "Go and buy something with a rainbow on it" twice for sure. By the way: I'd die for that Sonia Rykiel technicolour jacket, but since I can buy all my shopping finds for the same prize, I'd prefer to have a pile of textile happiness and dive into it.

Recently somebody described my style as a "crazy mix of all things colourful" and I love this description. Why not wearing (nearly) everything from my finds together? Even if you are normally not as colourful as me, maybe now it's time to banish black, get rid of grey and detest brown! Spring is here, colour is life-affirming, so let's all dance on a rainbow!

What do you think about my shopping finds lovelies, any favourites?

It's always hard to let people go if you value them dearly. In the beginning, hot promises to visit each other help to dry the crocodile tears, but after a while, you realise more and more that those visits either don't happen at all, far less than you imagined or that your relationship is just not the same anymore.

No more spontaneous meetings in a cosy coffee shop and cheering each other up after a hard day, no more lazy Sunday afternoons with pizza and your favourite series. Life feels a little bit more lonely, and you have no idea if there will ever be a new friend that can fill the gap in your life.

This is what I go through at the moment. It seems that too many people I love are leaving in a too short time. While the look I show you is a happy outfit, the closed eyes of my dress perfectly express what I feel: I just want to close my eyes and pretend nobody ever leaves. Oh, what a sweet but stupid nostalgia! But who can blame me: I am a sensible girl, neither afraid or ashamed of shedding tears when I am emotionally touched.

I remember all the novels I read about friendship among girls when I was a teenager. All of them going through thick and thin together, discovering sweet innocent love and helping each other over the oh-so-broken heart. This is the kind of friendship I was longing for my whole life. But teenage times are long gone, and friendship didn't get easier, only time did get less.

Yes we are all online 24 hours a day, we can be part of each others lives no matter how far we are from each other, but let's be honest: It's still not the same. And believe me: On Facebook, you only see the happy moments and never what happens if the eyes of the cameras are closed. So why don't we get offline and call an old friend?

Roll your eyes, but I am not over flamingos and probably never will be! As long as there is still space for more cute pink flamingo finds in my flat and wardrobe, I don't have enough of them. While the trend of animals in fashion changes fast from cats to dogs or foxes and owls, my heart will always belong to those elegant, long necked birds!

Sometimes I wish Hitchcock made love films instead of horror. Imagine a movie as cool as "The Birds", but in colour and instead of attacking birds with flocks of flamingos and a couple falling in love in a paradise garden…

The best way I can imagine to cheer myself up after a hard day is to come home, slip my feet into the fluffy flamingo slippers, turn on pink flamingo lights and dream of that movie. Long live the kitsch, long life the pink way of life!

What is your soul animal and what do you think of my flamingo crushes?

My perfectionism is out of this world! Finally, I can show you this rainbow space look, something I planned since Christmas. The odds have been against me: My hairdresser was booked out; I couldn't find the location I had in mind and last but not least spent hours selecting and editing pictures, changing my mind over and over again. I refuse to release a post unless I am sincerely satisfied with it and believe in quality over quantity.

This look pushed my boundaries of perfectionism so much because it contains several pieces especially dear to me. The diamond bag from Maude Studio I was lusting for months before I had it in my hands, the Charlotte Simone Scarf that was a Christmas gift from my darling. Last but not least The Whitepepper skirt with a print by my illustrator crush Hattie Stewart.

Friends who are not blogging very often say they want to start a blog too when they see the exciting things arriving on my doorstep. Often they forget, that no label gives you anything just for free, but there is a lot of work involved.

Don't get me wrong: I am very grateful for being on this path, and I am living my fashion dreams. Perfectionism may be in the way sometimes, but it's as well a powerful impulse to live up to my expectations and to what I owe the amazing designers out there. It's my thank you to them for the amazing things they create.

I hope you like this look, and it brightens up your day. Keep watching out for rainbow worms!

Azumi & David AW16: Sooo Next Season

$

This collection is Sooo Next Season! While London-based fashion designers Azumi and David are part of the fashion world since 17 years and therefore, more than familiar with aligning their creativity and aesthetics with the commercial aspects of the fashion market, they take their AW16 collection as an opportunity to re-purpose their viewpoint as one of artistic practice. AW16 is their impression of an observation of contemporary cultural currents.

Newspapers talk about the end of fashion week, Azumi and David go a step further and criticise the cyclical and seasonal essence of the fashion retail industry. "What does a consumer desire from purchasing a product?" they ask. Is it only a matter of practicality and modesty, protection from the elements, an expression of status or the desire to be accepted in a social group? Do we shop to enjoy our leisure time and as a way of escape from our 9 to 5 working days? Azumi and David play with the bright and bold symbols of consumerism. Don't you feel the sudden need to make your credit card ready when you see their catchy paroles such as "Buy one get none free" and "No special offers" hitting your eyes as unmissable, screaming advertising interferes? Then go ahead: All pieces are signed, numbered and limited to 50.

As a blogger and material girl, I very often worry about being driven too much by consumerism. This collection is a bold statement to speak out loud for a fashion label as well as a challenge to society to think about consumerism. No more change for change's sake, this project is doomed! It's time for "Sooo next season" as a metaphor for positive change!

See more of "Sooo next season"here.

Yay Easter is here! We all deserve this long, long weekend so much. I almost couldn't wait to have the time to edit my next posts. I wish I could show them to you right now and share the excitement I feel with you. I've never been excellent at keeping lovely things a secret...

Just as the Easter bunny brings colourful eggs, I like you to start this wonderful weekend with my lovely fashion finds article and picked only the best. Of course, I couldn‘t resist to include a bunny item: The heeled slippers from Streetzie‘s have a rarely seen wow-factor, I couldn‘t stop thinking of them since spotting them on pictures of last London fashion week on the feet of the models for Clio Peppiatt (see here at Fashionista Barbie).

I always had a big love for accessories, but at the moment, they excite me even more than usual. When I study the look of people on the street, I am surprised how many don‘t wear accessories at all, or only very little and few pieces. I say that they need to be bold, fun and big. I might own more necklaces than T-shirts, but I can‘t imagine the other way around. Play girls and don‘t be too shy to have fun!

So please dear Easter bunny: No sweets this year, but why don‘t you bring earrings instead of chocolate eggs? My health and my addiction for fashion will thank you very much. Have a happy weekend!

Me wearing sneakers? Might not sound very spectacular, but it‘s something I couldn‘t have imagined two years ago. I am not sporty at all, so I felt like a pretender. I wanted to be chic, elegant and make my rather short legs look longer. I preferred to have my feet covered in blisters from going shopping on heeled shoes instead of looking like the small girl I actually am.

What a silly girl I was! The hip chicks on the streets of London would laugh at me. How could it take so long till I discovered how cool sneakers can look? The sneakers revolution arrived in Sara's wonderland, long legs are overrated anyway!

While I already own a few pairs of sneakers, those are my first pair of Skechers. I can tell you: They are the comfiest shoes in my collection and wearing them feels like walking on clouds. And as you see: They don‘t just come in black or blue, but as well in rainbow, which makes them dream shoes.

I‘m going to be in London quite soon and imagine who is going to be the whole day on the feet, very determined to catch up with everything in never enough time.

I have big plans for meeting people, shopping, eating a lot of Indian food and a very special shooting I can‘t tell you about yet. Just as much: It‘s not for my page, and it‘s something I just know you‘ll love.

Lovely Label & Designer Interview: Baccurelli – A Colourful Life in Plastic

Baccurelli, cute jewellery, acrylic accessories

If you are dreaming of plastic, Baccurelli is what your dreams are made of! Baccurelli is a funky Los Angeles-based label that creates bold plexiglass jewellery since 2014. The label was founded by Meli, a graphic designer who follows her vision to combine her love for plastic and vector art in her accessories. Mel turns all her heroes from David Bowie to Frida Kahlo, Morticia Addams or Lolita into perspex heroes so you can have them with you as brooches or necklaces in your everyday life.

If you fulfil our jewellery dreams with Bacurelli, you buy something handmade with love by Meli and her husband Hugo. The message they give us on our way with their work is that we are beautiful just as we are and there is nothing we need to change. Wearing Baccurelli makes you feel fierce, playful and happy.

Interview with Meli, founder of Baccurelli

Where does your love for plastic has its roots, Meli?
I’ve always loved plastic. My Mom had the most amazing plastic jewelry collection in a wooden drawer that was high up in her closet. I remember standing on my tippy toes and slowly opening it up to grab every piece I could reach. I felt so glamorous when I got older and she lend me some pieces to wear with my own clothes. My parents were very groovy in the 60s and 70s so our home had a lot of sculptures, lamps and decor made of plastic. I remember one epically enormous sculpture in the middle of our living room that looked like a bowl of spaghetti suspended in the air. It was incredible and it engrained in me a fine arts application of plastic, beyond the ordinary industrial usage we are so accustomed to. So growing up, plastic was all around me. Also, I think anyone that experienced the 80s, fell in love with plastic too. There was such a plastic creative explosion in fashion in the 80s. I’ve always loved its texture, bright colors, malleability and fragility too. The fact that its super strong yet vulnerable is so appealing to me for some reason.

What kind of a woman is wearing your jewellery?
The Baccurelli woman is a strong woman that has survived many hard knocks that life has thrown her way, and has risen above them with greater knowledge and awareness of herself. Her personal imperative is to never take life too seriously, never get caught up in her mind too much, and be who she is without caring what others think of her. Its sounds a little cliche, and its something that we’re reminded of all around us these days, but the Baccurelli woman has LIVED it. She has cared too much about what others thought about her in the past, and at some point she relaxed and surrendered to all her weirdness and fully embraced who she was. Thats it in a nutshell. She adores who she is, and really only cares about being happy and having fun in this magical experience that we call life.

Is there a piece of your designs that has an unusual history?
The Be Mine candy brooch heart brooch was actually inspired by a huge cake!

Please tell us about a typical day at Baccurelli. What are your tasks?
My tasks are designing every piece, setting up each piece for laser cutting, order management, production management, hand making the pieces, shipping coordination, customer service, accounting, social marketing and business development. I basically design all the pieces, make them together with my husband (who also packs and ships the pieces) and run the whole business. On a typical day I start out by running through our Production Schedule, which I setup the night before. This is our bible. It has all the pieces that need to go out that day. We crank up our laser machine and start cutting every piece one at a time. Then we assemble, glue, polish and clean each piece. We allow a few hours for the glue to cure, and once everything is set, we wrap up the pieces, write the notes and put them in their envelopes for shipping. Then my husband walks to the post office to drop them off. We play and take care of our daughter, pick up our son from school and help him with homework, in between all those tasks. At night after the kids are put to bed, I’ll share things on social media and catch up with emails/comments from our beloved customers. This is a super fun time for me because our customers rock! We truly have the coolest, nicest and funnest customers ever and I treasure the personal relationship I have with many of them. They are my extended family! So our days starts at 7 am and end usually around 2-3 am.

Do you ever get bored of reproducing pieces and which of your designs is the most popular?
Not really. I imagine someone like George Michael getting bored of playing Careless Whispers (which btw we play at least once every day in our studio!), but I haven’t reached that level of saturation just yet! So far our most popular pieces are our Rosie and Frida brooches (both the large and mini). They seem to empower the wearer and help them through a rough day, which is everything we hope for and more. They are very loved pieces and worn by Baccurellians around the world. Its so beautiful and humbling to us.

Almost all of your cute dolls have their eyes closed and look like sleeping beauties. Is this a coincidence or is there a secret meaning behind this?
There’s a deeply personal meaning behind it. They are all based on our daughter Amelie’s sleeping face. I was enchanted by her beauty one night while she was sleeping in my arms, and was puzzled about what to make for her first birthday, which was coming up. So I decided to make a cake topper with her sleeping face, and because she is such a glamorous little girl, I gave her red lips. The cake topper was a success since everyone that attended the party kept saying how much it looked like her. So I decided to play around with different hair and accessories and see what other women she could embody. And the rest is history! So in essence all dolls are based on my daughter.

If you could pick five people (dead or alive) to design jewellery for, who would it be?
Kate Lanphear, Farida Khelfa, Leandra Medine, Sophia Amoruso and shockingly Marc Bolan, whom I adore. I’ve always envisioned Baccurelli as a brand for stylish men and women. People who like to push boundaries in their own unique style.

What do you prefer: Chanel or Moschino?
Moschino all the way. Tongue in cheek, graphic and full of yummy social satire. I adore Chanel as well, but for me personally, I prefer a little humor and social commentary in my clothes.

Isabella Blow or Anna Dello Russo?
Both! But if I have to choose, Isabella Blow. She stole my heart long before ADR!

You recently started to sell prints (I am lusting after a Bowie print very much). Is this kind of an homage to your former job as a graphic designer or part of a bigger plan to expand the range of Baccurelli?
It’s the first incursion into a bigger plan to create a line of Baccurelli Home. Some of our designs are so deeply loved, that it makes sense to lay down with your Frida pillow, or sip some tea in your Morticia cup and enhance your home with some colorful prints of your favorite icons. Our home is almost fully decorated in my own designs and I adore it. Their simplicity is appealing to both children and adults and its super easy to combine with other styles in your home. So I’m super amped to release more home decor items. Can’t wait for you all to see what we have in the works. But this is still a little ways away. Perhaps in another year or so.

Visit Baccurelli here and don't forget to give them a thumb up on Facebook.

I am in the mood for warm weather, for tropical fashion and more than anything else: PINEAPPLES! The sweet pineapple is the queen of the fruits in my opinion: It's a delight to the eyes, and it even wears a crown! I am glad the annual return of pineapples – not just to the fruit shelf but as well into our wardrobes – is as certain as the soon arrival of next summer.

I am thinking about holidays a lot recently and looking at tropical fashion finds helps me to get into the right mood. I have no clue where to go yet. The recent situation with many beautiful countries being not as safe as they used to be is causing me a lot of thoughts. I'd love to visit the pyramids of Gizeh, wander through the spice bazaars of Istanbul or discover quirky Bangkok.

I have the need for an exotic place in my life and dream of this while eating dried mangos and pineapples in grey Europe. I need something different, and I'm longing to see palm leaves moving in the wind. Maybe I could even go to a place where pineapples grow, and flamingos live…

How do you like my shopping finds and do you already have summer holiday plans?

Girls compare themselves with other girls. While we all know life is no competition and it's more fun to be happy for each others fortune we still can't resist. Of course, I'm no exception and catch myself comparing what I do with other bloggers. Apart from the question if they are more beautiful or more creative than me, one thing I often stumbled upon is the issue of facial expressions.

Like the models on the catwalks, many bloggers rarely show a smile on their flawless faces. The blank expression is just so chic in fashion (I loved this article about the question why models don't smile).

I sometimes try to look badass fashionable as well (for example on the second picture coming with this look), but I never succeed in stopping my mouth corners from going upwards for more than a few seconds. I just love to smile, and I believe it makes the world a little bit warmer.

Models don't choose what they wear; sometimes they might even think it's ridiculous what the crazy minds of the designers produced. But it' s part of their job to present whatever piece they have in the best light possible and fulfil the vision of designers, photographers and editors when doing pictures. Unlike them, when I wear what I love on my pictures and only follow my very own fashion dreams.

Therefore, I just have to grin from ear to ear most of the time: I love what I do and that I can share it with you. I am a very happy girl wearing all those amazing pieces and it's my privilege to express my luck in a big broad smile. So you see there is no way to stop smiling at all: Who needs coolness? I say smiling is en vogue in Sara's wonderland!

Let me tell you about the fabulous silk scarves of Fiona K. These scarves are the place where Alice in Wonderland has a crazy party with cats and diamonds, dwarves from the dark side of the moon listen to the guitar sounds of stunning pinup girls, and the yellow submarine makes its way through a land of ice cream and soap bubbles.

While Fiona is a girl of many talents – she is an industrial designer as well and owns a record store – "Amour Fou" is her first silk scarf collection. The young Swiss designer found her inspiration in the music of the 50s to the 70s. This is a perfect match, especially since her art studio is located in her record store in Zurich. The music from songs like "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend", "Sweets For My Sweets" or "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" flows directly from the records into her creative work. Fiona says that she made a collection for daydreamers and unconventional thinkers with a love for nostalgia.

All prints by Fiona K. are hand-painted, then scanned and arranged to astonishing ornaments. The scarves are digitally printed on high-quality silk in Como (Italy) and hand rolled.

The Pink Hair Guide

A lot of you guys ask me for advice on dying your hair pink and what products I use. Therefore, I hope you enjoy this guide filled with the wisdom taught by living the dream of a pink-haired girl for three years.

The decision: Say yes to the pink way of life

If you play with the thought of dying your hair pink, let me tell you: It's not a decision lightly taken. It will mean that you have to invest a lot of money and even more time into your mane to make this rosy dream come (and stay) true. Besides, be aware this colour is a statement and it will influence how people judge you and maybe even the kind of jobs you will get. Pink is certainly not for everybody. Once gone pink, there is no fast way back.

The bleaching: Don't do this at home

For a lovely shade of pink, there is no way around bleaching your hair. The darker your natural colour is, the more it will take. I strongly recommend having your hair bleached by a hairdresser. Bleach can be dangerous if not applied the right way, so please don't do this at home.

My hairdresser uses Olaplex while bleaching and I couldn't be happier. Olaplex reconnects the broken bonds in your hair and helps to prevent breakage. Although you hear about miracles in hair care every week, this one is really a game changer and I can't imagine living without it! My hair used to break and I used to lose quite some hair before I discovered Olaplex. It brought my mane back to a far healthier state. Olaplex is a three-step treatment: Step one goes into the bleach, step two is applied right afterwards. The third and final step is a take-home treatment you can use once a week as a deep conditioning mask.

Since hair grows fast (about one centimetre a month) you will need to fresh up your roots about every four to six weeks. Better select a lovely hair stylist, cause you will see each other a lot of from now on ;-)

The most exciting part: Turning into a walking candy floss

No comes the fun part: After bleaching it your hair is white as a fairy and this means it's time to add your favourite colour called pink. Unlike with more natural hair colours, there is no permanent pink dye. Your colour, especially if it's a pastel shade of pink will wash out very fast. I tried many different labels of hair dye, but the effect is mostly the same.

I like best to mix my shade of pink with Joica Vero-K Pak ruby red, a hint of purple and conditioner. Don't worry too much about the right mixture of dye and conditioner: If the result turns out too bright, it's not going to stay for a long time.

The Washing: Your hair will suffer from Aquaphobia from now on

You love it if your hair smells like fresh roses? Then I have very bad news for you: From now on your hair will hate to be washed and with every touch of water your perfect shade of pink will fade. I used to wash my hair every day and it felt like straw. At the moment, I am down to every second day and it helps to increase the quality of my hair. I believe that using a good shampoo and never go without a generous amount of conditioner is crucial; my favourites are the Joico K-Pak shampoo and conditioner.

If you feel that your shade of pink needs a slight touch up, you can use a coloured shampoo like the Rosé shampoo from Bleach London to add a hint of colour. Since my hair doesn't feel very soft after using it, I can't recommend it as a daily shampoo. The Bleach London hair crayons are a handy trick to freshen up the roots and cover wisps lacking pink. If you don't have a crayon ready, you can use a pink blush as a makeshift.

Dry shampoo is going to be your best friend:: It will help you to survive days without washing your hair, make it smell lovely and as an incredible bonus add texture. I am a big fan of the products of Baptiste, they have the cutest designs and come in a lot of different scents. Even better news: They are quite inexpensive, yay!

The other good friends: Hair Care

No wonder hair oil can't make come true
Hair oil is another miraculous weapon in hair care and my favourite product. It's what poor bleached hair dreams of to keep it soft, makes it shine, helps against frizz and smells so so delicious. My favourites are the John Frida Frizz Ease hair oil and the Redken diamond-oil and I use both of them alternatively.

Avoid the sun like a pink vampire or use SPF
Not just washing makes your pink fade but as well the sun. Therefore, I recommend to either avoid it or use SPF on your hair. My tip is Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil.

Pink saints avoid heat
But we can't all be saints, and I am a serious sinner… If you can't avoid to blow dry or straighten your hair, use a heat protectant – like the Joico Ironclad – and a good quality flat iron. Sorry for mentioning Joico again (no, this post is not sponsored by them) but I am very fond of the Joico styler. It repairs and protects your hair because it works with a keratin fuel that is poured into your hair while using it.

The cutting: You just need to let go

Your hair might have more split-ends now and needs this to look healthy and tidy. I have my hair cut whenever I have the roots bleached; this means every four to six weeks.

The cleaning: Your bathroom doesn't have to copy your look

One point many guides on pink hair don't mention: You'll have to put more effort into cleaning if you don't want your bathroom tiles to look just like your head. I strictly get rid of all rests of dye right after washing it out, and my tiles are as white as a smile from a toothpaste advertising. But I've seen else at friends homes...

The happy end: Having pink powers

I've been dying my hair pink for the first time in 2013 and I never regretted it. I love having a candy floss mane and believe it shaped the person I am. When people call me "the pink girl" I broadly smile and I developed a thick skin to overhear comments such as "Barbie" or "Lady Gaga" coming from strangers on the street. If you say yes to pink like me, I'll be euphoric to welcome you in the crowd of unicorns and be delighted the world got a little bit more pink.

What is the ultimate look? If you even succeed in finding a surrounding that perfectly matches all your rainbow pastels! What I love about styling is when things finally come together, and there is that tingling in the air telling you it's going to be a perfect match. Every piece you style into a look is just a piece of fabric, but if you mix them with joy and enthusiasm, you can create a beautiful composition. Styling is like music to me: Every tone needs to be right for a perfect melody. The air seems to hum if you achieve this.

Sometimes I play with a particular style for days in my thoughts till I believe that everything is the way it was meant to be. I imagine how an outfit would change if I choose just a different accessory or try an entirely different colour palette, always with the goal to find a balance between harmony and tension. This is the difference for me between being dressed in a merely functional way to avoid being naked and styling.

Making outfits can almost be like inventing characters for a fictional story: I can be the dreamy pastel princess, the elegant vamp, the funky retro girl or the sporty chic. You will judge me by what you see, but because I change day after day, your judgement might be heavily influenced by the day you meet me. The outfit can be the killer or the hero of the story.

Fashion, I love you so so much, you are my favourite playground. I hope you can feel the excitement I put into this look as well lovelies!
