The mermaids must have left their homes hidden deep under the sea and now they are all over the shops. Wherever you look, you will find them, all of them waiting to be a girls treasure.

Mermaids inspire dreams of mystical adventures, they are creatures of divine beauty and enchant sailors and kawaii girls likewise. I suspect the mermaid hype will continue until at least next year because Hans Christian Andersen‘s classic book will appear on the big screen as a live-action movie then (Let‘s hope this one is going to be good one, although Sofia Coppola dropped out as a director).

I already ordered four things featured in this post; this makes it probably the inspiration post with the most Sara-hits ever. If you are curious, feel free to guess what‘s on the way travelling over the wide, wide sea right into my wardrobe ;-)

I am only waiting till my parcels arrive and then I‘ll be ready to play Ariel and her fair sisters, cause darling it‘s better down where it‘s wetter under the sea!

Very close to the chimney, there is a fawn, it always sleeps and sits on a bed of gravel, its big eyes open but dead, its fur soft yet cold. This is a memory of my childhood and bambi is still in my parents home, frozen in time and waiting there with its sad eyes whenever I come to visit. My father told me that he found it lying dead in the forest when he was a kid, and the gamekeeper had it stuffed for him. Since I was very young, I was fascinated by this creature, because it was my first and only very close encounter with a fawn.

For all beauty inhabited by this creature, there is a lot of melancholy in seeing it stuffed: Aren't they made for running through the forest and snack on field flowers?

Therefore, my Bambi is no taxidermy, but a cute fascinator, the bed of gravel has been replaced with a bed of flowers and living Bambi can run freely in the forest. No animals harmed in the name of fashion here (even my shoes are plastic, you see).

Still, the memory of its stuffed version I hold very dear because it is strongly connected to something very precious: My parents, my childhood and the first place I ever thought of as home.

Live bright, live neon! There is nothing more striking than making bright accents in your home and if you try to achieve the maximum of colourfulness neon might be the answer.

Neon was THE thing in the 80s and has appeared in a more reduced way again and again since then. Some people say it's only for punks, some say it looks cheap, I say it's the perfect time to bring neon back for real! It goes very well with modern, minimalistic spaces and is a bold statement.

If you have a lot of earthy tones at your home, don't be afraid to give neon a try. Some bright sparks can be a spectacular contrast to dark wood for example.

Personally, I think the best neon piece to invest is a huge light – like this gorgeous ice cream (Yes, I am guilty of ordering it and can't wait to see it right next to my dining room table). As a graphic designer, I created many signs in my career and dreamed for ages of having my own. Finally, I will have my own disco at home, neon party forever!

If you don't feel that bold, just go for a single neon accessory like a bowl, a vase. You will smile when the sun rays coming through your windows will meet the shockingly colourful neon and cause bright reflections.

If you love shoes and art, this will be your ultimate heaven.

LED screens transform the Galeria Melissa entrance into a blue water world and let the visitors dive into the summery pool world of Jeremy Scott instantly. Giant inflatables such as cute teddy bears and hearts welcome you to this fun place.

But the best thing awaits you if you follow the stairs down: A swimming pool full of blue and aquamarine plastic balls with a slide to give you the opportunity to dive in and fulfill your childhood dreams. Nobody can accuse you of being childish here, after all, it's art ;-)

"Are you ready for festival season?", all fashion magazines and newsletters want to know as the evenings get slowly lighter. "Shut up" I hiss as an answer and feel the instant urge to turn my head.

I never went to a festival in my whole life. I avoid huge crowds of people on limited space, and (while I like music covers) I certainly don't like to get covered in mud. I don't like camping. Or rain. Or people acting silly while being drunk. And no, the fact that I am a music lover can't make up for the disadvantages of festivals at all.

But well, have a look at my outfit: If I would wear wellies instead of flamingo heels, I'd be so so ready for the most colourful festival of the season. But maybe exactly this is the root why I don't need festivals: I allow myself the liberty to dress up on a regular day. I don't need an excuse to put on a flower crown and be a vision with rainbow pom poms and bright prints. Wearing an outfit like this makes me feel festive no matter if it's Monday, Tuesday or any other day. It's like having an unbirthday party, every day (including your birthday).

Glastonbury and Coachella we will never meet, I am (not) sorry. While Alexa Chung and Kate Moss get covered in mud, people will catch me humming a summer tune while I'm taking a stroll in my neighbourhood. That's how I roll.

I am mermaid-crazy, not just since they are super-trendy, but it already started in my childhood. I can still sing a few songs from Ariel the Little Mermaid (my first CD ever) and have the movie on my shelf and don‘t care if anybody thinks this is childish. I believe we should never stop dreaming about fairy tales, no matter how old we are.

When I found this cute pastel cardigan it was like a jackpot: If there is anything better than mermaids, it must be mermaid cats! Imagine a bunch of fluffy cats with fish tails having adventures in the sea. Their mighty mercat-king is always swimming ahead with its trident; others play the underwater harp and catch mer-mice. I make strange sounds whenever I see a cat, just thinking about their fish-tailed fantasy relatives makes me giddy.

The baby blue top/dress (not so sure how to call it) is like made for a mermaid outfit: Doesn‘t it look like a siren‘s tail? I shopped this look when I was in London a few weeks ago, and therefore it reminds me of the beautiful days I spent there. I even had a bath in a bubble pool wearing those clothes at the Galeria Melissa (see post here). I was so excited I even lost my sunglasses in the pool. Luckily it was a cheap pair, not my Miu Miu glasses.

Life under the sea isn't without dangers; every mermaid needs to know...

Time for another wish list post! I thought we all need a new dose of colours in our life. As you know, I always loved rainbows, not just since what happened in Orlando, not only at Gay Parade and not just after I discovered how many narrow-minded and intolerant people we have in the world.  Therefore, this wishlist is bright and packed with all colours; this is what the world needs more!

I wholeheartedly agree with all the rainbow stands for as a symbol: Yes to peace, yes to diversity and another yes to equal rights for everybody, no matter what gender or sexual orientation!

Wearing rainbow is the ultimate colour decadence: Why choosing if you can have them all? It's like meeting all of your friends together, like eating a whole cake instead of restricting yourself to a single piece. Why do other people have difficulties to decide if they want to go for marble gray or elephant gray? I just don't understand and overtake them with full rainbow power. Rainbow is not just fashion; this is a philosophy!

Once upon a time, there was a little mermaid, her name was Ariel. While she was charming and had a happy life under the sea, it couldn't stop her from feeling she was missing something and dreaming of being a human. All she ever wanted was having legs to dance and walk. While her sisters thought this dream was a rather weird desire, I wonder if other mermaids shared Ariel's dream.

I experience strange stories while I sleep as well: A few days ago, I encountered myself in a dream. I had long hair in an unremarkable dark blond colour (my natural one), was wearing ugly glasses, no makeup at all and my outfit was a combination of denim trousers with a plain white t-shirt. I worked in a pharmacy, was very shy and could blend into every crowd without being noticed.

I woke up feeling confused. The dream-me was so unlike I see myself, but yet the same. What an awkward feeling! She seemed to be a canvas that didn't catch the attention of an artist: Plain, unremarkable and –forgive me for saying – ugly. Unfinished. I feel grateful for not being that girl when I could have.

You might say the difference between real-me and this dream-me is just a question of style, but I have to disagree: I bet this girl wouldn't meet the same kind of people I do, would not have this blog and probably not even spend the life with the same man. Influenced by her surroundings, she would develop other interests and in the end, become a person unlike all what defines me.

So mermaids, better not dream about having legs and be grateful the way you are! There is a reason your life turned out just the way it is and every single decision you take, every outfit you wear and every smile that lights up your face brought you were you are, step by step.

Finally, after nearly endless rain, summer is here, and we can all make a splash at the pool. Until now I was not in the mood of thinking about swimsuits, but the sun changed my mind, and I discovered some super duper colourful swimwear for you.

Even if the bikini has its 70th birthday this year, I plead for choosing a swimsuit, because more fabric means more room for awesomeness, don't you agree? If I go to the beach, I wanna do so as a walking rainbow and relax in my giant flamingo floatie (in case you haven't noticed yet: inflatable beach toys are THE object of desire at this moment, no matter if donut, melon, shell or swan, they rule the beach).

The most fashionable beach queens wear long-sleeved swimsuits this year. While they used to be made to protect surfers from cold water temperatures, this year they are hot for the less sporty too. Beyoncé has already been spotted rocking one in Hawaii, so what are you waiting for? I think you can top Queen Bee's look with the stunning piece from this post.

"I have nothing to wear" I sometimes hear myself say when I stand in front of my wardrobe. Every girl might know this problem, but as a fashion blogger, the pressure to have something new all the time is especially significant. After all: What outfits shall I shoot if I don't stock up my wardrobe consistently?

But where is the sustainability in this behaviour, where is the sweetness of wearing something you love for years till it looks so worn you have to give it away? Among fashion people, only the new is chic. Fashion is less about personal style than about a dictate of novelty. Labels and designers constantly tell their customers what's hot right now and what you bought a few weeks ago will be "so last season" in the blink of an eye.

So what shall we do: Join the run and cheer for the new month after month or step away and just trust our taste? At the moment, the answer is a mixture of both, just like this look: One new piece (the skirt), everything else oldies but goodies from my wardrobe. This is all it needs for an entirely new look. My advice: Experiment with what you have in your wardrobe and style it new again and again!

Recently my Instagram feed is full of cute pins teasing me to get them and they succeeded. So oh yes, a jacket full of enamel pins is what I see in my dreams!

When it comes to pins, there are only two options: Either you don‘t own any or you have a whole bunch of enamel awesomeness in your life. Do you remember collecting pins at school back in the 90s and don‘t know the reason why you ever stopped? Then now is the time for a new start! Instead of collecting Pokémon, go for pins! More fun, no balls and better graphics for sure!

Many cool independent designers and artists started do design pins, and I bet everything cute you can think of from unicorns to flamingos, ice creams, and pineapples come as a pin by now. All you need is to start a collection and basics will be no longer boring when they get customized with pins. Even big fashion labels such as Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, and Dior have fallen for pins and helped to elevate the former childish accessories to a whole new level of fashion item. So there is no question: We all need them in our life!

I am very sorry for not posting a new look for a little bit longer than usual. My other job was just very demanding during the last few weeks. I barely had the time to sleep and therefore my blog work didn't make a lot of progress. I had all pictures shot, but no time for editing and making a selection for you lovelies.

Facing a hard time makes me wanna dress even more fun and colourful. Lagerfeld said that sweatpants are a sign of defeat and for people who lost control of their life, I feel the same about not dressing up in a quirky way. Wearing something I love gives me a lot of power to overcome hard times and to never lose my smile. A superhero needs his costume and mask; I need my colours.

So what could be more fitting than wearing pineapple, pizza, flamingos, rainbows, melons AND mushrooms during a tough time? The print of this shirt from Buried Diamond for Print All Over Me is like a crazy trip and therefore I just had to get my hands on it. Other people might say it's bad taste; I think it's a level of cool not everybody can recognize.

Long live the trippy taste!

Wishlists are supposed to be not just good, but better than real life (otherwise they would be shopping lists ;-) ). So I always work especially hard to present only the most dreamy things on my wishlists. Today I have a lot of fluffy clouds, sequins, and roses for you, all in pastel colours; beautiful isn't it?

At the moment the shops are kind of a nether land between the seasons: All summer items are on sale, but it's still too early to get excited about coats and wool jumpers. Therefore most of the things I am craving for right now are accessories. They will accompany you no matter if it's pool time or if the leaves already fall (please not yet, please, I want summer to stay forever).

I feel like dreaming on a fluffy cloud number seven while I imagine how beautiful the baby blue dress would look with the embellished shoes and the leather neckpiece… Where is my credit card, time for shopping!

My favourite curiosity: Bag with mice playing poker

One of my favourite things to do while traveling is to discover museums and galleries all around the world. During my trip to Amsterdam this month I visited an extraordinary gem I have to share with you: Let me tell you about the world's foremost museum of bags and purses, The Tassen Museum Hendrikje. The museum,  situated in a lovely 17th-century canal house, tells you about the history of the (hand)bag in Western culture. It proudly presents an extensive collection of over 5000 bags from the 15th century to creations from contemporary designers, focusing on bags from exceptional quality and design, special materials and shapes. Fodor's Travel awarded The Tassenmuseum Hendrikje as one as one of the ten best fashion museums in the world.

Among the highlights, you can see Margaret Thatcher's iconic handbag and a Versage evening bag worn by Madonna for the première of the movie Evita. Classics such as the Hermès Kelly Bag or the luxurious creations of Judith Leiber stand next to next with all big names from Chanel to Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Gucci. 

The story of this fascinating collection of bags started only about 30 years ago, when Hendrikje Ivo, an antique dealer, bought a handbag from 1820. This was the beginning of a real passion of gathering extraordinary bags and with the help of her husband Heinz the collection grew and grew until it counted more than 3000 bags. They decided to show it to the public at some point. First, the bags were displayed in two rooms of a villa only, till the museum moved to its current location in 2007.

I enjoyed my visit to this museum a lot and can honestly recommend everybody who has an interest in fashion to go there. Another benefit of visiting the museum is to be inside a charming Dutch canal house. My advice: Book a High Tea for your visit to fully enjoy the beautiful museum cafe.

We're All Mad Here

Oh, Alice, I wish so much I could join you in crazy wonderland, play flamingo croquet, have a tea party with the mad hatter and try to solve the riddles of the Chesire Cat. Agreed, the last Alice in Wonderland movie was a disaster, but this can‘t harm my love for the world and the characters by Lewis Carroll.

Especially now, right after holidays I feel the strong need for a magical escape and going back to the everyday routine feels like the fall into a rabbit hole. It was just too beautiful to have time for my own, just to do whatever I want (working for the blog is always high on the list of course). No need to get up early and no reason not to stay up the whole night. I‘ve been wearing my Chesire Cat dress a lot during holidays and got quite some compliments for it. No wonder: Grinning cats rule!

You can still look forward to see a few more expressions from Amsterdam, stay tuned! Sharing my memories with you allows me to dream of sweet holidays a little bit longer.  Advise from the caterpillar: Just book the next holidays right after coming back, nothing helps better to beat the blues.

Best Cocktails in Town at the Conservatorium

Oh, Amsterdam, I enjoyed wandering your streets during my holidays this month. The Dutch capital is truly a fabulous place to relax and spend a few days. Most people know that Amsterdam is famous for sex and drugs, I say it's a paradise for shoppers, delicious food, art from many periods, and innovative design.

I have never seen so many concepts stores at one place, so shopping was a real experience next to sightseeing and wandering around museums and galleries. The Dutch are very friendly and joyful, and most people speak very fluent English what makes it very easy for visitors to find their way.

While you wander around the beautiful historic houses and cross the picturesque canals of Amsterdam, you feel like you landed in a real life version of Disneyland. If you like to walk, you see most of the city. It's not too big or confusing, so you don't have to be afraid of getting lost. If you arrive in Amsterdam, I can recommend doing a boat tour first to get an overview. Afterward, you might hire a bicycle and go with the flow, just like the Dutch.

Amsterdam, be prepared, I am coming back for sure!

The Museum of Bags and Purses: 
The world's largest museum of handbags located in a beautiful house by the canal. Read more about it in my post here.

Envy: 
Treat yourself to a five or six-course menu and just sit back and enjoy at this modern and rather posh restaurant. If you are a Vegetarian like me or have any special wishes, just mention them and the lovely staff will take care of it.

Kitsch Kitchen:
My favourite shop in the city offering all kind of kitschy things and a huge selection of colourful treasures from Mexico.

The Conservatorium:
Very cool cocktail bar with a fantastic selection of gin cocktails. I even found a cocktail to fit my pink glitter handbag ;-)

W Hotel:
The rooftop bar is not just a good place for having a snack or drink but has a fabulous pool with the best view. Another advice: Visit the toilets, they are quite spectacular…

„Where are the looks of Sara?“ you might have asked looking at post after post without my face appearing. I tried and tried to edit pictures from shoots again, but had severe difficulties to focus and escaped into a world of product pictures.

I am blogging for five years now and never before I felt so tired of looking at myself on pictures. While I don‘t consider myself as a very vain person but happened to become a blogger only for the love of fashion, it was always clear that my looks and I are inseparable connected. After all this is a personal style blog.

But when I had a look at the last looks we shot, I just wished it wasn‘t me wearing those beautiful styles. A rather strange and uncomfortable situation for a personal style blogger.

What got me out of my moody dilemma was this look. I loved to wear the devil top so much and wanted to capture a new wild side of me in the pictures. No more effort to look good, no more worrying about not having the longest legs or an angel face, this time, I played the fashion demon obsessed doll. I danced, screamed and let my pink hair fly through the air. Can you feel the energy in the pictures?

I suddenly felt very free and relieved from the pressure of being more perfect than I am. Thank you silky devil, for awaking a new me. Now I can be brave again and face the pile of pictures on my desk.
