Today is a very special day: Sara is in Love with… is celebrating its fifth anniversary.

Five years of excitement, self-doubts and learning a lot of new things. Five years and I am still on my way to realizing that I am not the average fashion blogger and I can't decide if that is my luck or my curse, maybe it's just both.

You see all outfits of this year above and an animation with looks from my five years of blogging below. I went through all outfit pictures ever taken creating it, and it was very emotional. Some old pictures made me doubt if I am still as good as I used to be, others made me blush and wanna delete them immediately. But what is a blog if not a journey? Every travel needs ups and downs, and maybe especially the bad things happening are necessary for finding the right way.

During the last five years, I felt very proud of what I achieved with my blog but was thinking about giving up very often too. I asked myself if I have enough to tell to keep this blog alive. I don't want to do the same pictures, same poses and write the same hollow words to go with them again and again. I am not the most vivid writer nor a gorgeous model, so can I give you enough? What is it that brings you here exactly and so many of you?

There is a lot of pressure in the blogging scene, a lot of comparing and jealousy. Often I end up feeling hurt when certain agencies and brands seem to ignore me. Am I not good enough for them? In theory, I know that confidence is the key, but I still stumble again and again. But a kind reminder from myself to me: Sara you have been interviewed by your favourite shoe brand Melissa this year, you had a whole page feature in a major newspaper, and you met one of the world's biggest artists (only to name a few exciting things), this all means something. It might not change the world, but at least bring a little bit of colour into it.

I often feel like there are certain specific categories of bloggers and I fit none of them: I am neither "That vintage blogger" nor "this plus size blogger" or "that blogging model." But this is who I am, and authenticity has always been paramount for me: I am Sara, I love to dress, and I am inspired by many things from avant-garde fashion to pop culture, art, Asian street style and Barbie. I am a shopaholic, and I dream of shoes and handbags. When I grow old, I would like to have a museum-worth collection of clothes, just like Isabella Blow or Iris Apfel. I know I am galaxies away, but just give me time, and I keep going. This is what I love and what I wanna share.

If I imagine a life without this blog, it feels like a massive hole is opening up in my heart. I put a lot of my love, energy, and passion into every pixel you see here, and after five years I can barely imagine living without my baby. Like any child, it's not perfect, but it's learning and growing.

Thank you for being here, for all your comments and lovely emails and for believing in me when I sometimes don't. Thank you for all the exciting opportunities and things you brought in my life. I never dreamt of my parents having a collection of magazine clippings with me on it, giving interviews and meeting labels and designers I love.

Life is great! Let's get ready for the next five years!

If Alice would turn into a futuristic heroine and travel through the galaxy instead of discovering wonderland, I bet she would wear the SS17 collection from Ana Ljubinković:

Belgrade (Serbia) based designer and artist Ana Ljubinković has always loved to experiment with fabrics, colours and forms. She graduated with a degree in Painting and her roots in visual arts is an essential part of her fashion work. Ana is not afraid of breaking rules and creates something new and yet unseen following her own vision. Her innovative pieces rarely fit conventional descriptions such as „jacket“ or „skirt“ but are truly innovative.

Girlish uniform-like silhouettes in ice cream hues are paired up with cartoonish sensibility. Ana‘s models take over the silver catwalk as bold cosmic dolls on acid. The looks are completed with pastel garrison caps and incredible sky-high heels (look at the shoes, gosh!).

This collection is kitsch at its best and takes you into a weird and bewildering candy world.

Dyson Supersonic: Is this the Holy Grail among Hairdryers?

There is no way around the new hairdryer from Dyson; it's in all magazines and newspapers and last Christmas there was no gift without it. The Dyson Supersonic is stylish, unlike any other hairdryer and like all products from Dyson, it doesn't come cheap. While all sounds exciting (besides the hefty price tag) let's ask the most important question for us beauty geeks: Is it worth the hype or just a blast of hot air? I tested this innovative hairdryer for you and tell you what I honestly think about it.

Let's start with a few facts: The Supersonic is the result of extensive research and tests with over 600 prototypes and 1000 miles of human hair. Dyson caused a worldwide shortage of hair on the market during their research. They built a new dedicated beauty testing lab, hired engineers and looked for the advice of world's best stylists to rethink the way a hairdryer is made.

The motor of the Dyson supersonic is placed in the handle, while traditional hairdryers have it always in the head of the device. You have the choice between three speed settings. There is as well a built-in microprocessor that measures and regulates the air temperature 30 times every second to prevent your hair from heat damage.

The Supersonic comes with three magnetic attachments: A styling concentrator, a smoothing nozzle and a diffuser for curly hair.

And now to the really exciting part, my test:

First impression: Love at first sight like in a Disney story

Unpacking it gives me that awestruck Apple-feeling: Every millimeter of the packaging is suggesting that I hold a premium quality futuristic piece of technology in my hand. From the first second, I want to love it very badly. Gosh, this design! It looks unlike any other hairdryer, but a little bit like a mini-version of Dyson's bladeless fans.

First try: Is this the solution for more sleep and no more feeling like lifting weights while drying my hair?

Switching it on for the first time I am hit by a blast: It's incredibly powerful. You might expect a device like this to be loud and roar like a lion, but its sound is surprisingly quiet, and lays extremely well in my hand. While some other hairdryers make me feel like I am lifting weights while using them, this one is quite light. My hair is happy too; it is dry very fast and feels smooth and glossy.

I have a few difficulties to style my hair because I am used to a traditional hairdryer, but I am very motivated to adapt to the Dyson and believe this device might change my hair game. I feel the strong urge to tell everybody I encounter about this hair dryer, and they react in a puzzled way. No wonder: I don't think it ever happened that a hairdryer was stirring so much excitement in the beauty industry.

Two weeks later: Is it weird to invite people to my flat so they might see my fancy new gadget in the bathroom?

During the first days, I switched back using my other hairdryer sometimes, because styling was still a bit of an issue. But after a few days, I got to know how to handle my Dyson, and every other hair dryer starts to feel clumsy. My boyfriend was even ahead of me: At his first encounter with the Dyson, he decided that our other hairdryer is less efficient and therefore no option anymore.

While I had the intention just to lend the Dyson Supersonic for this review, I ended up buying it. We are even thinking of purchasing a (designer) stool to display it in the bathroom: The Supersonic is just too beautiful to be stored away in a cupboard. :-)

Two months later:How could people ever believe the earth is flat or was there a life before the Dyson Supersonic?

A traditional hairdryer, me? Never if I can have the Prada among hairdryers! My old hairdryer is collecting dust in the drawer and feels like a relic from the middle age, while the Dyson Supersonic is my new best friend. It's certainly an expensive gadget, but think twice: A hairdryer is something you use every day and doesn't that justify to invest in a quality product? My advice: Get the Supersonic, it's worth every cent!

When you return to the cloakroom of a posh restaurant after having dinner, and the lovely lady awaits you with your coat in her hands, telling you she remembers its gorgeousness, you might have done something right. Maybe you might have shopped at Selfridges. This post is not sponsored by my beloved high-end department store in London (I wish it were ;-) ), but I have to tell you a little story about what Selfridges means to me:

Years ago there used to be a design intern in London. Like most interns, the one called Sara didn't have a lot of money. Nonetheless, at weekends I loved to walk through Selfridges. I adored the more than 4000 pairs of shoes in the building, the flamboyant designer robes and of course the extraordinary windows. In the end, I always left with some tea, a few cookies or a hand cream and I was happy to have a little part of the shopping world that I loved with me. A piece of the place with the ladies wearing Chanel from head to toe, perfect makeup and expensive handbags.

A few years later it's time for an announcement: Ladies and gentleman, may I present my first major Selfridges shopping? I mean from upstairs, where the real treasures are, not from the high street section. May I present my Shrimps coat?

I was fed up with cheap and bad quality coats, I just needed a good one this year, and only the best silky faux fur could do. The happiness I feel whenever I wear it was worth every penny. Sometimes a girl just needs to treat herself!

Yesterday, for the first time this year I felt spring approaching. I watered the plants on the balcony without freezing, and the sunrays tempted me to sit into my baby blue Acapulco chair for a few minutes. Oh yes, I anticipate the warmer weather coming back!

Inspired by the beautiful light, I started to compose this wish list post, and I bet you are not surprised it turned out all spring-like and colourful. How I would love to wear everything together to a smashing look...

I love all my fluffy coats, but I am so so ready to put them aside till next winter. I want to wear my highest heels without fearing to slip on icy streets, and I am looking forward to fewer layers of clothes. Please, please, please sun, say you are here to stay. I‘ll do my best to pick up piece after piece of my spring wardrobe in the meanwhile to look like a sparkling rainbow when the flowers start to sprout.

Which pieces of this wish list do you like best and what are your must-have spring items?

Hello CeliaB SS17! My favourite fashion designer released her next collection, and while I think all her collections are (colour) bombs, this one is even called Spanish Bomb! and truly fulfills the expectations of this powerful title.

With this collection, the Asia-based designer Celia Bernardo returns to her Spanish roots and merges her original signature designs with spectacular ruffles and bold, colourful prints. The Latin influence is apparent in the delicate embroidery, the mesh textile and the explosive use of colours.

For the third time, CeliaB worked together with Natacha Duarte who made the prints for the collection. This time the Portuguese artists created a land of wonder where everything is possible with dreamy fantasy leafs and flowers, colourful peasants and dotted jaguars.

Celia's passionates goal for Spanish Bomb! is to bring happiness into our world and I believe who looks at the fantastic pieces can feel this immediately. Her fashion is for bold, strong women who are feminine and individual, yet playful and it's such a relieve to see something as unique as her work in a world where people tend to dress the same. It must be a lot of fun wearing those mind-blowing pieces, therefore: Yes, I want to be a Spanish Bomb!

You can shop the collection here and watch this video to find out more about CeliaB:

I loved pink for a long time, but recently it's becoming more: It started to turn into what black is for others. I feel like a veil was lifted from my eyes and I can see clearly now: There is no colour that doesn't go with pink, there really isn't!

While I always liked to combine my favourite colour with blue, yellow or red, I just discovered how flashy pink looks with lilac or with a bit of orange. I never liked orange, but look: Mixed with pink that suddenly changes. There seems to happen a kind of magic between the two of them (maybe you can call it love ;-) ).

The longer I live as a pink girl, the less I understand why most people's basics are black or gray. There is nothing against those "colours" if you like them (unless it's beige, this is just terrible in my opinion), but why not being a little bit more playful and fill your wardrobe with the bold diversity of a box of coloured pencils?

Besides the colours, there are many things I like about this looks: All the cute cats and the fact that the outfit reminds me of Japanese street style looks – especially because of the platform shoes. But I am not done yet: I want to see what else can be done with pink. Let's combine it with everything I haven't tried yet!

Be prepared for more colour mix looks! Gray can stay home for a long, long time!

This is one of my favourite style posts ever, and I certainly don‘t say that about every post, I swear. The opposite: As a very critical person, I rarely ever like myself on pictures, and I always think there is space for improvement. Sometimes I am even highly disappointed about outfits looking way better in my imagination than captured in pixels. But not today, right now I am just pleased with how this post turned out. YES, what an extraordinary and rare feeling!

I think it‘s the magic of colours in these pictures: My life is all about colours, and this shoot captures very well how I feel. If there was an ocean of colours, I would dive into it without hesitating for a glance and live there as a happy rainbow whale. I am not satisfied with just pink or green or orange; I insist on having them all together, and that's what I did today. After all, it's the beginning of spring, and I think this exciting season needs to start with a blast!

Note to myself: Whenever I don‘t feel beautiful (which happens a lot of) I should immediately slip into this look because it empowers me to boldness. It‘s a wild mix of prints, fabric, and materials. Pompoms meet leopard print and beads have an encounter with the hand pattern.

The bag is a real dream piece I got from my boyfriend after staring at it online for weeks. Don‘t I just have the best man? He knows that I don‘t need a ring from Tiffany, but flamingos and fluff.

If we find beautiful walls to take pictures in front of them, there is a certain feeling of happiness creeping into my heart. Please say that you are here to stay...

„Wow, those colours and patterns“ was the first thing that crossed my mind when I discovered Mama Tierra and their bags and accessories at a pop-up market. But unlike many accessories they are far more than just fashionable, so let me tell you about their makers, the Wayuu.

The Wayuu belong to a Carribean ethnic group of 600’000 people who inhabit the northernmost tip of South America. In a no-man’s-land where 80% of the population lives in poverty, problems such as the immense inflation, water shortage and the enviromental pollution caused by multi-national mining companies make them struggle for survival.

The pride of the Wayuu is their craftsmanship: While western culture displays art in museums, they wear it. Wayuu culture demands perfection, and they are among the most skilled weavers on the earth. After a Wayuu girl menstruates for the first time, her tribe starts to instruct her on tasks to reach adulthood. Hard work, perfection, and respect toward others are important values and learning to weave hammocks or bags are paramount to grasp these values in their culture.

Mama Tierra is Spanish and stands for Mother Earth. The goal of the Swiss Non-Profit organization is to support the financial independence of Wayuu women by commercializing ethnic accessories. They are inspired by those women who earn the family’s living, bring up the children, struggle for the preservation of nature and pass on their heritage. I think this is a cause we should all support and the best way to get active is to bring a little piece of colourful Wayuu culture into our everyday life!

The New York Times describes the Wayuu bags as cult objects. Stars like Cara Delavigne, Katy Perry or Uma Thurman have fallen in love with them just as I have. A lot of fashion stores all over the world started to offer them, however there are cheap bags among them. I am glad I found Mama Tierra to prevent me from falling for the low-quality version and own one of their bags as a symbol of my deep respect for the art of the Wayuu.

No offense Belle – I like books too – but shoes and bags win today, and I would consider turning the library of the castle into a walk-in closet. Do you think the beast would be angry with me? (By the way, if you haven't seen The Beauty and the Beast you should hurry to the cinema and watch the adventure of the first Disney princess that didn't do what men told her).

There are so many events happening at the moment, and I constantly feel the urge to be dressed especially well, what doesn't make my wish list smaller. If there are small and big boxes of coloured crayons, I certainly wish myself and my wardrobe to be the deluxe edition.

Please, please Easter bunny, have a look at this list and maybe reconsider the chocolate you have in your bag for me. I bet some shoes would fit into your basket too ;-)

Happy Easter everybody! I bet you are all eggcited (sorry for the lame joke ;-) ) about the long weekend, colouring eggs and eating chocolate. I am so glad I can finally share this post with you because I barely couldn't keep it to myself.

As a fan of the art of Jeff Koons, I was intrigued when I discovered shiny metallic chocolate bunnies at the shops that reminded me a lot of the work of the famous artist. Mister Koons had nothing to do with them, but I wouldn't be surprised if the packaging designer of the bunnies was a fellow Koons lover and balloon dog fan.

When a giant version of the bunnies arrived at my local petrol station to make it look cheerful, I just knew I needed to get my fingers on one for a shoot.

I can't say if the lady at the checkout had a clear idea of what we planned to do with her bunny, but I am grateful she lent it to us, and we brought it back safely. It must have been quite a view for the pedestrians when my photographer and I walked through the streets carrying this green long-eared giant. No fancy outfit could have topped the amount of surprised looks we got.

And here we are: Sara in metallic bunny land. I felt a little bit like a model in a Tim Walker shoot (yes I know it's light years away, but still closer than I ever was) in my pastel rainbow dress and with a unicorn on my head. This is how Easter should be, yay!

The Pink Hair Guide: How to Make Love Last

Overtone, pink hair, hair care

Four years of pink hair, one year since I wrote a pink hair guide and now it's time to make some additions and tell you about my latest hair care tricks. Pink – or colourful hair in general – has reached a wider spreading in the meantime, and a lot of brands answered the call with new products created for the specific needs.

One of the biggest problems of colourful hair is the fading. Resisting the urge to wash your hair every day and using the right shampoos helps a little (and washing your hair with cold water would, but: Eeeeeek, that is no option!), but can't stop the process. Don't despair; there are products making your love story last longer. Here we go with my favourite darlings:

Overtone Pastel Pink Daily Conditioner
Use this conditioner every time you wash your hair, and the mild formula adds colour while moisturizing it. I used to dye my hair every week; now I'm down to every two or even three weeks thanks to this deliciously smelling conditioner. My hair feels more healthy than it did for a long time.

Overtone Go Deep Pastel Pink Weekly Treatment
The second weapon to fight the fading from Overtone. Once a week your hair deserves an extra rich and conditioning treatment! It only takes 10 to 15 minutes and makes your hair less dry than your homemade mix of conditioner and dye.

Colorista Spray
I bet this hair disaster sounds familiar: You just freshly dyed your hair, and it didn't turn out even. You can either curse and wear a cap for the next days or follow my clever solution: This spray. Just add a few dashes to your dry hair, and you are ready in no time. Use it on any colour of hair (besides black and very dark brown) for a touch of pink that washes out the next day. I only wish it came in bigger bottles cause I am addicted...

If you have questions about my hair care, please feel free to ask in the comments below. You can buy Overtone here, Colorista should be available at your local pharmacy.

Dear Life, you are full of surprises. Although there are moments when I don't understand you, and I might be angry with you, I love you from the bottom of my heart.

When I was younger, I tried to imagine how you would be when I was grown up, and I dreamed of fabulous things going to happen. Some of them have already come true, a lot of things I was too modest to wish for and others were just silly dreams, and I am grateful they never happened.

What I didn't imagine was all the work I would have to do to reach all my goals, from tiny to huge. All the hustle and stress I complain about too often, and that causes dark shadows under my eyes.

But you know what? I don't want to have it another way: I want to deserve what I got, and I love what I do, even if it is sometimes exhausting. Dear life, please let me continue and go further together. Let's do more of what I love and wish for a lot of time because I am just getting started. Not least important: Let me be a tropical girl for the rest of my life, thank you.

My Outfit:
Jumper: Asos, Skirt: Kenzo x H&M, Shoes: 4th & Reckless, Bag: CeliaB,
Necklace: Tatty Devine, Earrings: Yazbukey, Sunglasses: House of Holland,

Cacti Handbag –  Pool Necklace –  Silver Shoes –  Happy Bangle
Pink Sunnies – Blizzard Sunnies –  Dress with Printed Faces –  Red Jumpsuit
Bomber Jacket –  Fluffy Rainbow Slippers

Nothing makes you realize more how much you changed than rummaging in the deepest depths of your wardrobe. Yesterday I was brave enough to make a journey into my fashion past and decluttered bravely. The result is three big bags for charity and space for new things, which means as well time for a wishlist post!

But first let me tell you about my old sins: I found things that looked like they must belong to an entirely different person, things a Sara ten years ago must have liked and Sara from the present can't see the reason why. I don't hide anything: I found several models of the most boring black dresses, shoes that screamed 80s (and not in a good way) and even a brown leopard pattern skirt (eeeeeeek brown, I hate brown from the bottom of my heart, I really do).

I was always considered as a fashion girl by the people around me, but I think my style evolved a lot. Ten years ago, my wardrobe was more conventional and less colourful than nowadays. I cared much about dressing to please others and what people talked about me. Today I just roll my eyes and think "Let them talk, whatever I don't care, " and I feel very grateful for finding this boldness.

So gone, baby gone, discard the old and bring in more rainbows!, I have space for new things! Ladies and gentlemen, we are building the perfect wardrobe of the future! ;-)

Pink flowers ready to make the eyes of the mothers shine.

Happy Mother's Day to all lovely mothers and daughters out there, but as well to all women who inspire, influence and sometimes act as surrogate mothers, drying tears and being part of lifetime events!

My Mother's Day started last week already, with an exciting mother-daughter shopping event at the factory outlet Fashion Fish in Schoenenwerd (SO/Switzerland). Bloggers and winners from a contest met each other for shopping, getting styled and having drinks and chats together. Stylist Clifford Lilly was at our side to help with styling advice and charm.

I've been at Fashion Fish for the second time (read my first post here) and had so much fun there both times. I bought the poshest fluffy sandals ever from Bally, the new Moschino Pink Fresh Couture (OMG that bottle looks even better in pink) and a vintage style dress with tropical print.

Sadly I couldn't take my mother with me, cause she was in Egypt enjoying the sun. I would have loved to shop with her and have some beautiful pictures of he two of us taken, but being alone had the advantage of having the whole generous budget for myself. I loved to watch the other mother-daughter couples shopping because they were all very cute. We chatted a lot about colours, the best bargains and beauty secrets, while updating our wardrobe.

Thank you very much for having us Fashion Fish, I'll be back for sure!

Zara Larsson, Capsule collection, H&M

Mark the 18th May in your agenda: H&M is launching a capsule collection with Swedish pop singer Zara Larsson, and it's a dream in pink and velour screaming girl power. If the Spice Girls would hit the stage for the first time tomorrow, I can imagine this is what they would wear!

Zara Larsson's pieces reflect her personal style and are emblazoned with hot print graphics as well as feminist messages. The mix of edgy streetwear with strong graphics and glamorous stagewear makes every girl's heart beat faster.

The 19-year-old platinum-selling singer Zara Larsson is known for her playful and empowering songs. After winning the Swedish version of Got Talent in 2008, she gained fame, first national and then international. Her new album "So good" will be released on the 17th May. Zara Larsson calls herself a feminist and her favourite colour is (naturally) pink. She is looking forward to girls all over the world adding her clothes to their personal style.

The collection will be available worldwide on the 18th May in selected stores and online.
If you are in Switzerland: Head to Geneva or shop online.
